How far in advance can I make butter icing?

(4 Posts)

I thought so, thanks. I do the same, I've generally always got some in the fridge but it's only us that eat it, not proper people grin

I had some left over last week from making butterfly cakes and kept it in the fridge for a week until I could get up off my lazy arse made a victoria sponge to use it in

Buttercream icing will keep in the fridge (in an air tight container) for a couple of weeks.

Making a cake for a big birthday do but will be on holiday for a week until the morning of the big day. Am making and freezing the sponge but can I make the butter icing a week before and refrigerate? For various logistical reasons it would be easier to do it in advance but not if it's going to kill everyone!
