Vanilla custard slices - how crisp should the pastry be?

Should the pastry be really crispy or a little soft?

really crispy - it will get nice and chewy where its in contact with the custard. Oh yum.

Roll it really thin, prick it loads of times with a fork, then bake it between two heavy baking trays.
