hi

My daughter and her friend has started a site but i think it is a bit basic. I thought it would look a bit like Airbnb or something like that. She says it is alright for a start up. Can i have your opinions pls

getfroglet.com/

thanks

In my honest opinion it's too confusing.
It's very basic (basic is better some say) but there is a definite lack of imagery and layout which makes it one big block to read.
If I had come across is as an actual user I would of clicked off straight away.

Tips would be to have a more structured lay out with a smaller menu header, and make it more obvious on the homepage what the website is about - it says work from home and remotely but that's not very clear. Also better imagery to make it more pleasing to the eye.

I wish your daughter every luck with her new venture!

Disclaimer - I'm not an expert by any means and do not work in web design, I am a fellow online business owner though.

1) The main home page image doesn't size correctly in my browser2) Why is the "Home" page link second from right in the top links?

NetballHoop Fri 21-Oct-16 16:12:07

Sorry, posted to early.
3) The Log in and register pages don't have any of the branding of the rest of the site
4) The "Click here" links open in the same page so I can't go back easily. They should open in a new page.
5) The small frog logo in the top bar is too small.

Well aside from hating the name,
Despite liking frogs
Something more constructive.
When you tap on the links to specific jobs instead of opening in a new tab/window it opens in he original window, which means you loose the froglet page.

The layout when looking at it on my phone is dreadful. I wouldn't and haven't bothered clicking on any of the links based on that alone.

Woooow, I doesn't look great (sorry)

Disclaimer: I'm a web developer, I've done some design work but it's not really my day job (it crops up sometimes when the designers have no time or on websites I've done away from work).

-No logo, a stock photo of a frog is not a logo
-I had no clue what the site is about... frogs? lettings?
-Text on hero image doesn't have enough contrast
-The navigation makes 0 sense
-The navigation looks mess and log in/ register should look different to regular links
-You really need to disguise the fact that is running on wordpress if customers are going to be using the login stuff (for staff it's fine).
-There needs to be more above the fold
-The search is crap, I can't search for jobs... what's the point?
-Those weird blank circles
-The... errr... weird (badly) photoshopped stock photos... wtf?
-The Favicon is of your hosting company
-The title that appears in the tab is too long/not that helpful
-Slightly weird URLs
-Any and all links that go to external sites should open in new tab
-Theres a footer in the middle of one of the pages
-Dodgy search bar on about page
-Potentially the contact form will be spammed by bots and you will get tonnes of viagra emails (had this with a site the other day grin) if they can find the site
-Twitter link in footer doesn't work
-On mobile navigation is ridiculous
-It's not particularly responsive, def. not mobile first
-Those tables don't work on mobile, become unreadable
-Big white gaps
-4 colours is quite a lot

Sorry the list is long and may sound harsh but this is the kind of thing that happens at work (normally, I'm on the receiving end of it sad).

Basic/minimalist is fine (or great!) but basic/amature is not so good. The Theme she started with is fine but she gone a bit awry. The needs the be a clear brand identity and a "what is it we do?".

If I was looking for work I'd probably bounce from that site as it doesn't look professional... that is I could find it (I'm no SEO pro, so not sure I could advise much there but yoast seo helps a lot of bit sites). Start-up is not an excuse for shoddiness.

blush sorry about the long post.

You're welcome.

I'd be interested to know how she takes it.

I have to say, it doesn't look like thlike sort of site I would trust, mainly because it is pretty basic looking. It's also not instantly clear what the site is about. I took a couple of screenshots to show how it's displaying for me.

Hello! The key for me was not knowing what the business does - I had to do some detective work to get a better understanding and I'm still not entirely sure. Most people won't bother and will just click away.

The About page is really minimal - this is a fantastic opportunity for them to tell their story, why they set the business up, who they want to help, what makes them stand out etc

They need to really hone in on;

WHO they're targeting - who is their ideal customer?
What SPECIFIC problems/frustrations can they solve?
How will they do this?

All of that needs to jump straight out from the home page.

Hope that helps! Good luck to your daughter smile
