School doing nothing

19th Nov, my 7 yr old was pushed over and knocked out in playground at school. School didn't call an ambulance, left me to get him to hospital by bus (school know I don't drive due to my disability). He spent 3 days in hospital, CAT scans etc, has a very bad case of concussion (still on painkillers 13 days later). Doctor's note ran out 26th Nov, had to send him back 27th Nov. School told no pe or playground for at LEAST 3 weeks on advice of head injuries Nurse. His teacher made him do salsa dance yesterday, he got elbowed in head! Tried to book appt. with Head on Friday, told he will ring me. Grabbed him in playground this morning, he said he's sent off H&S report (by law I'm meant to see it before it went off) He wouldn't stop to talk due to Ofsted inspection, says he might have time to see me Thursday (no set appt.) After contacting TASCC and various other LA depts, I managed to get school to provide me with copy of report. Report is trying to make out my son tripped on paving slabs, it's full of inaccuracies and downright falsehoods. School office have refused to give me details of the board of governers, TASCC say my only comeback is to complain to governers via school office (who don't pass on complaints, had that happen before) as the schools are 'self governing' and until next year there isn't a local ombudsman. My 7 yr old has always loved school, he's on the G&T register, and now I'm dragging him kicking and screaming that it's not safe there, it could happen again he doesn't want to go. If there was any other school that I could reach by bus (I have epilepsy) I would move them, but no local school has space for both my boys. WHAT do I do???

I've finally got my hands on a copy of H&S IR1, full of complete twaddle and inaccuracies, the school are trying to make out he tripped. The head injuries nurse told me that the only way he's got concussion this severe is if he's been 'rugby tackled' to the ground by someone much larger than him, and he's adamant he was pushed. Plus he was left unconcious in an unsupervised area of the playground, apparently there's only 2 members of staff on duty at breaktime, to oversee the juniors break with 210 pupils..Would I get a solicitor on legal aid for this as I'm out of work on disability benefits.

P.S. Sorry for posting twice, I'll get the hang of it soon!

Ofsted inspection eh?

Make a banner and stand at the main school entrance (you know " Maybe Now Would be a Good Time to Talk About My Son's Concussion?"

I think you might find it surprising how effective this might be if the insectors are due through the gates.

Lol I might actually do that in the morning.....It's a 2 day inspection...problem being that there's 3 sets of gates, and I have to go through the furthest one from the office to get to my younger boys class....might be worth them being late though!

Are some parents chosen by ofsted to make comments? (sorry I don't know as never been through one) you could tell school you are volunteering to be interviewed.

No you get a questionnaire that you have to hand in to...the school office. I did this during the schools last ofsted inspection (about the lack of SEN provision at the school, for my LD DD), and it never got passed on as Ofsted HAVE to publish complaints in the full version of the report that you get online, and mine weren't in there. Office staff will have been told, like last time, that if I hand in an envelope for ofsted, to file it under 'B' for bin...I tried talking directly to the lead ofsted inspector today, all I got from him was " put a complaint on the questionnaire and hand it in to the office, and I'll speak to the head to see what he says.Your complaint may or may not make it into the report..."

Definitely get a solicitor involved. I was in a similar situation 5 years ago and school wouldn't do anything and they also had an Ofsted inspection. What you all must realise as well is that these kind of incidents are very rife and you are on your own against the school and the education system. You will also be classed as a trouble maker. In the end my DS had a nervous breakdown and no-one would help me (including our GP as she said she didn't want to do anything against the school) so I had to pull my DS out of school and home educate. Best decision I ever made. Only problem is now my DS has their confiddence back it has been impossible to find a decent school as the only ones on offer have a terrible problem with bullying so we are now having to emigrate later this year just so our DS can have a school to go to. I loved school when I was younger and I don't remember schools and teachers being as bad as they are now. Very few people care and the education system and teachers will not be on your side no matter how much you are in the right and they are in the wrong. Please get some legal representation. Your child has to see that what happened to them was not ok.
