I have the Medela electric one and it;s great - my DS is only 11 days old but yesterday I got almost2 oz in about 15mins. I don't find it sore - but it's really noisy so not discreet at all.

Medela one is top banana for me.

Has range at side which can make it less or more sucky - i only found that the other day!

It is noisy but worth it - can't imagine being arsed to self pump - would take ages (and more tricky when also feeding the nipper on the other busom). The baby whisperer recommended this pump on her programme. My friends swear by it. Glad i got it. It's battery as well as mains run.

Pricey but got mine from boots and used my advantage points i'd saved up. About £40 may get cheaper on't interweb.

Happy pumping!

You're going to take a breast pump out???

Vote for the avent handpump. I hired one of the "hospital ones" when I left, but got nothing like I got with the avent. More of a dairy round here at the time, so it was. Milk squirting everywhere!

Hand expressing is IME the most efficient if you get the knack btw.

But as Spike says, not so good if you have babe at the other breast - and this is where the electric ones come in I guess.

Another vote for the Avent hand pump. I never found I got any more with an electric pump and they're so noisy!

Having used both electric andAvent hand pump, definitely the hand pump. You can get 'let down' much quicker, I have expressed up to 5ozs at a time, could never get this much with the electric pump. Also the noise of the electric pump frightened my baby if I express during feeding and I quietly use the hand pump at night for expressing during feeding when I have lot of milk.
