something they release i spose. i used white and savoy. something comes out of them cos they go all limp when you've used them

I used Savoy & kept them in the fridge. Just peeled off a leaf at a time & stuck it in my bra. Don't know if there is a chemical they give off or if it's just that the leaf is exactly the right shape and being cold it seemed to take the 'heat' out of the soreness.
It wasn't a miracle cure but it definately helped.
Plus made me laugh at the situation and, boy, do you need the laughs when your nips are throbbing!

No idea about releasing a substance, I thought they only acted as cheap ergonomical compress that can be taken out straight from the fridge. In my case, they were fine for minor sores ... for the real ones Jelonet was better.
