Changing from normal formula milk to non dairy option - anyone had experience?

Hi all, dd is now 3 months old and health visitor wants me to try a non dairy formula as she had eczema and can be more than a little irritable at times, thinks she may be lactose intollerant or somewhere on the scale anyway! Now dd is a chunky little soul and loves her bottle. I'm obviously wanting to do what is best for her but am a little worried about how she'll react to a change of formula. Has anyone done the same thing out there? what happened? Should I change or not rock the (albeit very grumpy!) boat?

Congenital lactose intolerance is very, very rare, dizzy - are you sure your HV doesn't mean cows milk protein allergic? Either way, she needs a proper diagnosis before you change to a non-dairy formula. There's quite a lot in mumsnet archives about this.

Hi my ds had the same thing at 3 months he had it worse though bad rash and very upset stomach and wheezyness and we changed him to sma lactose free and he took to it fine it didnt seem to have any effect and he was like your dd he loved and still loves his bottles so if your hv thinks its best then go for it she should be fine!

Now you're asking tiktok! The HV has so far only said that she thinks the sma could be making her skin worse and would like to try her on nutramingen. I was taken off of dairy when I was about 5 and it cleared my skin so I don't know if she's taking that into account too. Presume I'd have to see doc before I could swop anyway as milk is on prescription. Will ask her about protein allergy though, thanks
