How much formula does your 9 month old drink - and what formula do you use ( switching 9 month old from BF to formula)

Ok so my last thread on ideas for getting my little man to take more of his bottles in the day didn't shed much light on the problem so thought I'd try another approach!
Ds 2 has been breastfed till about 1 month ago when I started to introduce bottles. He protested at first, then accepted them, but then has gradually been drinking less and less of them, and it is becoming a struggle to get him to take even a couple of ounces. the only one he drinks well is a dreamfeed at 10pm
I gradually phased out BF, and he now hasn'r Bf in about 2 weeks. I give him lots of cuddles etc... in the day, and wear him often in a sling, and I know it is a hard transition for him. But I am concernd at how little milk he takes in the day. He does eat 3 good meals a day and will drink water from a non valve cup at meal times ( wont have milk from cup though - have tried!)I do feel that he sleeps better at night when I manage to pursuade him to drink more in the day
So how much formula should he have? Should I just stop worrying about how much he has? Maybe the waking is more a sleep issue than real hunger? if you have switched an older baby from BF to formula which formula did you use? Thinking I may need to try a few diff formulas maybe.... Any ideas?

Galen, how old is your ds?

how much does he have?
tbh i think you're flogging a dead horse trying to make a baby drink if they don't want it.
remember that breastfed babies usually drink little and often, so perhaps he needs smaller amounts but more frequently?

as for which formula, that's really just trial and error tbh. I would go for whatever is cheapest and work up!

a minimum of 20oz is recommended up to 1 year and is inclusive of milk with cereal, in foods and cooking and any other dairy products you give. At 9 months ds had 3 milk feeds - am, mid-afternoon and bedtime of approx 6 or 7oz although he gave up the mid-afternoon one by 10 1/2 months. If your lo isnt taking much milk in the bottle then make up the difference through his food.

My DD has one BF and 2 bottles of formula a day now. She only has 3oz mid afternoon and 4oz before bed. I add 2oz of formula to her cereal in the morning, 1oz to whatever she has for dinner, give her yoghurt and she most of her meals have been cooked using cheese, milk and butter. Obviously, I have no idea how much she takes for her morning BF but I am hoping that all of the above add up to about 20oz.

my dd is 8 months and am also stopping bfing. i find she will only drink bottles (after months of refusing them) in a dark room in a semireclined position in my arms). I give her Hipp stage 2 milk. she prob gets 5 oz per feed and i offer 3-4 times a day which is a lot but as she is not eating solids really (another battle...) i am a bit paranoid about her intake...

will he drink some more out of a cup? does he like yoghurt?

My DS used to have 4-6 6oz bottles a day at that age, and we always used Cow and Gate (mostly as he was 8 weeks prem and it was what they used in the hospital).

I should point out he's a big lad though and had been 91st percentile for height since 7 months.

Thanks for the replies.
sunrise He actually does always do best in the rocking chair in our room, nice and quiet...
laumiere funnily enough I was just coming on to post that I have had great success by changing his formula to C&G - he definately much prefers it. Have also switched from a follow on milk to a first milk as I think the extra iron was making him constipated.
He is taking his bottles much better now, and is much happier and more settled - a big relief!

Galen I sympathise with this, my 8 month DD is dropping milk like no tomorrow, but loves her food.

I have now stopped worrying about it and she has:

200ml SMA first thing
Ready brek or weetabix with SMA at 9
water with breakfast
Pasta, veg and cheesy or creamy sauce for lunch or lentils or leek and potato creamy type pie with cheese.
Yogurt for pud or fruit with milk and rice.
Water with lunch
SMA 100ml in a cup at 3pm ish
Tea, more of the same as lunch, anything annabel carmel really
Water to drink
Bedtime I make up a 250ml bottle of SMA and hope that she drinks it all, but usually she manages about 200ml.
does that help?
