Blocked duct? Owwww

I think I have a blocked duct - woke yesterday with one massive leaky boob. It's still really painfull, not rock hard but a lot harder than normal. It's a bit red but that could be where I've been massaging it (towards the nipple). DD is feeding fine and it doesn't hurt more to feed her. Is there anything else I can do?

It could also be mastitis so keep an eye, and if you start to feel unwell, get thee to the GP immediately for some antibiotics. They will help and you'll need them as it can make you feel awful otherwise. Good luck - hope it disperses by itself. Sometimes they can!

i've had 2 blocked ducts with dd3 (she's now 8 weeks), one either side at different times. Tips:

express (even a little) if you can from the blocked side
feed as much as you can from the blocked side (obv still feeding from the ok side as well)
cabbage leaf in bra is incredibly soothing
massage towards nipple when in a warm bath/shower
oh and, feed, feed, feed to clear the blockage!!

mine rectified themselves within 24-48 hours by doing the above. I agree, it's excruciating! As flllight says, if you start to feel unwell/fluey - get to the docs asap.hth.

I had a blocked duct, if you can see a white spot on the nipple, that's the end of the duct. I sterilised a needle (ouuuuuwwwwwww) and pierced it. (following advice on kellymom) it was like a balloon deflating and worked immediately.
