Bisphenol A - Risk From Baby Feeding Bottles

Did anyone else see this story on the BBC news? I hadn?t heard of this scare before.

The NCT site says: "The NCT is calling for a clear labelling of bottles, following findings that Bisphenol A is known to leak from the plastic used in many baby feeding bottles."

I've now scouring the internet for glass or BPA free plastic bottles to replace my Avent and Tommee Tippee collection - any advice?

(Maybe the NCT are just sensationalising to push bf (and scaring bottle feeding mothers into depression again - annoying as I am only just getting over the guilt and depression brought on by having 'failed' at breastfeeding!!)?

Yes - because we all know the NCT don't care about either mothers or babies - all they care about is guilt tripping the 95% percent of mothers (both breast and bottlefeeding) who use bottles.

Marsh, NCT are not sensationalising. They were approached last week to comment on the news stories from all over the world about this issue. They are calling for clear labelling so parents can choose to avoid these bottles.

The last thing NCT wants to do is to 'scare bottle feeding mothers into depression'...what is the alternative? To not comment on this issue at all? To not speak up for parents who want full information?

I am a breastfeeding counsellor with NCT and I am very sad for women who wanted to breastfeed and who stopped before they planned to. That's probably why I am a breasfeeding counsellor. We are all volunteers, and it is upsetting to think that people believe we want to 'scare bottle feeding mothers into depression'.

There's nobody else to speak up. Magazines and websites depend on revenue from advertising, often by baby bottle manufacturers.

I'm glad they've brought this issue to a wider audience.
