How do you bf triplets?

Was just watching on the news about the woman who had the one in ten billion (or something) identical triplet girls, she was talking about the steriliser on all day and always making up feeds. Now it's not my postion to comment on her choices, but I did wonder is it actually possible to bf triplets? How on earth do you go about it? My ds was such a slow feeder, if I had three like that I couldn't imagine two tandem feeding and one just politely waiting. Do you have to have them on different feeding routines in which case you can't possibly demand feed, and if you do have them on different feeding routines how on earth do you ever get any sleep? I'm fairly sure if that was me I'd be on the formula because I just can't see how the logistics work out!

I think you'd probably have to mix feed or hope they get hungry at different times.

Much the same way as you would feed singletons... at the breast.

It is possible to exclusively breastfeed triplets. Yes it will take more time (possibly) but that doesn't make it impossible.

It is possible (difficult admittedly!) to exclusively bf triplets. I have heard of mums alternating each baby between each boob so that each gets a fair share

Some babies don't ever feed that much, though - I don't think my DS2 ever had feeds of more than 10 minutes, after the first week. And in the first week, they were 30 minutes at a time.

Well as someone who's managed to exclusively bf twins and has a friend who has exclusively bf triplets... honestly it's not as bad as you singleton mums think!

It sounds like hard work - but still less hard work than bottlefeeding them would be!

I reckon it would be possible. HARd work but less work than formula.

If you bottle fed them you still wouldnt be able to pacify all three at once - unless you have three hands

I loved sleeping with the DTs. If I had had triplets I imagine I'd've done the same. Loved sleeping with my babies!

You'd need a very big bed though wouldn't you? I love sleeping with b when she wakes up - but I do still tend to sleep curved round her - wouldn't be too comfy with three wrigglers in there I think!

true yurtgirl.

Mars - i love co-sleeping too. Only had singletons but is still fab.

yeah, she was a mw (I was a little surprised she wasn't attempting bfing, maybe she did and it was too hard) I guess you'd have to hope you had three babies that fed pretty fast, my ds took an hour and a half to feed until he was at least 8 weeks old. I suppose you'd have to be really organised and co-sleeping would definitely be the way forward for nights, don't suppose dh would be able to share the bed too, it'd have to be a pretty big bed!

I'm sure it's possible, I just couldn't get my head around it, tandem feeding I understand, but three? Respect to anyone who does it!

Mars, not ever likely to be in the situation but did you feed on a routine or was it all on demand? And your friend who bf the triplets, was it all direct from source or did she alternate with bottles of EBM?

Im sure the mum I read about who bf exclusively triplets was actually a MNetter in mums on babies

I applaud her but suspect i would struggle myself! I would definately give it a go though

I know! I hope she's got some help at home or she's going to look like she's 50 before she's 20

chip it was on demand... but when one woke I woke the other and fed them in tandem.

It was the most amazing thing I've ever done (apart from grace the earth you understand ). I loved feeding my DTs. Looking down on two wee heads...... sigh...............
