DO you have a local NCT number (private home phone)? You will have a local Breast pump agent and they will operate all hours. Probably the only way to find one is to speak to an NCT contact.

Molly, I had to express in hospital too (George tube fed then jaundiced and sleepy). I have the medela swing breast pump, and when I tried that I actually got more milk than when I used the hospital's medela one. You might find someone locally who could lend you one of those if you have no luck with the hospital grade one? Just a thoight x

Hope you have managed to get sorted. If not, one more number to try is the NCT Breastfeeding Line - open til 10pm every night. If you are able to ring from a landline the system is set up to try and put you through to a local counsellor if one is available. If not, you will go through to the person on duty who may or may not be local. (But even if this happens that person may have local numbers available, or indeed further advice)

molly, don't get stressed. I am a volunteer NCT breast pump adviser and believe me you are one of many - including me! Neither of my kids BF despite my best effort DS1 because v premature, DS2 because he's a monkey. Used an Ameda Elite for both and was brill. If you still need one tomorrow morning call 01823 336362 and they will tell you where your nearest NCT volunteer is and you can normally get a pump within hours.

Thanks ladies. You have all been so supportive. I'm getting by on a hand held medela electric pump but it takes forever and I don't have much milk yet. I'm expressing again as I type. I used the medela hospital grade one while in hospital and it worked quite well. Hopefully with all the info and numbers you gave me I'll be able to get my hands on a double breast one which should at least save on time. Between expressing & feeding feeds are taking at least one hour and a half. The hospital pump should cut down on that a bit.

DH got his hands on a double breast hospital meleda breast pump so that should at least cut down on my time spent on the pump. I did skin to skin before the last feed for a god hour but she still won't suck on the breast. She is still a very sleepy baby so I'm hoping with time she'll take to the breast. Not sure how long I can continue expressing and then giving it to her from a bottle.

Tiktok: Have you come across this before? where a baby will latch but won't suck yet will still take the breast milk from the bottle?

molly, don't want to answer for tiktok but FYI DS2 did just this. Sat on breast and didn't suck at all. I blamed it on hospital. He didn't latch on straight after birth and they gave him a bottle that first night. He never did succeed in feeding unfort. But I did express for 4 months it went OK. However, I'm sure being at such an early stage that you can rectify the issue. Get hold of your local NCT adviser or BF clinic.
