Infant feeding

How do I stop a feed or feeds but continue feeding - I need AF back!?

I am BF 8 month old baby, and want to start trying for another ( I am not young and we took a long time to get pregnant with my gorgeous DS.)
Thing is I love feeding him, and he loves feeding and still feeds alot - at least 8 x in 24 hrs. And feeds to sleep - so difficult to stop mid morning / mid afternoon feeds as they are associated with sleep for him.

I have not got my periods back yet.

Can't believe I want AF back - after years of desperately not wanting AF to show each month!

Anyone else trying to conceive while feeding?

And no I am not pregnant!

I am bf dc3 10 months, just got my first af last month but when feeding dc2 we ttc at 6 months and although no sign of af at first, I concieved twice and had early misscarriages with both, the dr said my body was confused with all that feeding! I decided not to stop feeding and wait to get pregnant but I got pregnant the next month and stayed pregnant and kept feeding, I think because my body was ready to grow another baby and because my baby (10 months by then) was sleeping longer at night he was naturally taking less feeds.

why don't you just go for it? you might be ovulating already, by 10 months babies tend to start taking more food as they are beggining to get active and so might sleep more, feed less! -af will be along soon!

or you could always try my approved method of getting the baby through the night...

I just substituted a formula feed with a breastfeed

Both times AF returned around 8 mths for me anyway

I'm pregnant although early days. First pregnancy happened after 2 years, 2 operations and lots of medication and hope. Second time happened after a few months of trying and just a few early nights

DS is 17 months and I haven't had a period since February 2006. I'm still breastfeeding too! Relax about it and enjoy. Good luck.

Wow! So many replies - thanks!

I guess to sum up I need to chill a bit
Makes me realise I associate TTC with associated with charting, fert monitors etc so is pretty 'controlled' for DH and I!

Kristina - I'll take it that you are older than me! LOL re your conception - yes DS still feeds at night - we co sleep so not too bad at the moment, but when I am back at work I may have to try whatever Preggerspoppet's method or what ever other sanity saving technique works to get sleep without baby attached.

Preggers - that is really interesting that your body seemed to wait until ready to support a full pregnancy, and that you did not have to stop feeding in the end. Congrats on your DS!

The blond - never managed to get him to take a bottle in the past even of expressed milk. Thinking about it, I really want to give up the feeds which are less about feeding, and more about getting him to sleep - like feeding 3x an evening - what a mug I am!

Congrats llareggub on your pregnancy - maybe the early nights are what DH and I need. Not helped by DS being in our bed at the moment - DH a bit put off by the 'extra' person in the room!

GG
