I've gone down with a rather nasty cold (thankfully DS - 9 weeks - doesn't seem to have it so bad.

Does anyone know what I can and can't take. I remember reading I can't have decongestants, but what else?

Also, any tips on how to clear poor snuffly DS's nose? We use saline drops up his nose when its really bad (MW suggested) but he hates it so we don't do it more than a couple of times a day.

thanks in advance!

I think the snuffle balm (by Vicks I think) is only recommended from 12 weeks. Not sure about Karvol capsules. Warm steamy bathrooms are probably good.

You can take the Boots cold and flu drink thing. Like Lemsip, but just paracetamol and vit C in it. Not as good as Lemsip, but psychologically it feels good.

I'm also taking Boots cold and flu capsules, which are not advised for bfing mums, but the lady at the BFN drugs helpline said they were OK. The only downside is that they can decrease your milk supply, but that's not such an issue for me, as DS2 is 21m, so not so dependent on my milk.

You can inhale steam from a mixture of menthol crystals and boiling water. Also plain paracetamol and ibuprofen are better than nothing.

My sympathies, I feel the same at the moment. Can't wait until I stop bfing. I'm going to take every strong flu remedy going (have been pg or bfing since June 03!).
