Infant feeding

ds2 is 1 yr old this week. Totally bf. Has abruptly and devastatingly self weaned.

my 3rd child others self weaned gradually 16 mths old. Up until 4 days ago ds2 would have up to 6-7 feeds in 24 hrs. Now he latches sucks then recoils pushes it away laughs and crawls to get his cup and hands it to me. I can read the signals, he wants it from a cup. He can have cows milk. No bother. Except I'm fairly gutted. I know its not about me but he's my last child and I love feeding him. He will take a bottle no bother as well.

At night he wakes 1-2 times and he is still feeding then. Feel a bit of a dummy only feeding in the dead of night but...

He self settles without a feed so I have no huge problems aside from little lump in my heart.

Both my DD's started refusing the breast at 5 months old, so know how you feel, (especially with DD2 as she is my last baby) but think of all the other exciting things that you have to look forward to. How long would you have realistically wanted to carry on BF for?

well I would have happily fed til age 2 and beyond as long as he wanted... He had. Bit of boob before bed but not enough to get lovely snuggly and dozy like he used to. So now taking ages to settle = stressful

The fact that he has stopped so suddenly really makes me think it's more likely to be a nursing strike than self-weaning.

Kellymom has some useful tips if you want try to carry on:

Sorry to be so brief... holding a very heavy ds!
