My dd is 13 months old and absolutely refuses to drink from a cup. She will only drink milk (and nothing else) from her usual bottles. My HV has told me that I should discontinue use of the bottle immediately as she should be drinking from a cup by now- I have tried numerous cups and beakers but each time my little one sees one she starts screaming and pushes it away. I then have to give her the bottle to ensure she gets enough to drink! Has anyone else had a similar experience??

i wouldnt keep pushing it if your child doesnt want it.forget the timescale and go with the flow and just keep trying every few months.they will do it eventually dont worry.do what you feel right for your baby not what is expected at certain times they are all different.

My son would only have bottles for milk for ages - eventually I persuaded him to drink water from a cup (I found the Tommee Tippee Kids on the go cups were best) so I just made sure he drank the milk down in one sitting, didn't allow him to play with the teat, etc. to minimise any ortho damage and let him get on with it.

One trip to Granny's we "forgot" the bottles and he had milk from a mug as a "treat" and that was that.

Friends recommend waiting until they have a bunged up sort of cold and find sucking from a bottle difficult and switching then

once they get to mums and tots they will get a beaker and usually they like to be the same as the others so that might help.
