Help! feel like giving up BF my 10 week old DS - not sure what to do

I've been mixed feeding my DS since he was 4 weeks and has been going well but DS seems so much happier when he is formula fed and am thinking of giving up bf but don't really want to.

DS is now 10 weeks and is gaining weight well - 14lb 5 at 8 week check! At the moment he is breast fed in the day and has formula at his 6.30pm and 10.30pm feeds. At these feeds he drinks 5-6oz in about 10 mins brings up wind straight away and then is content and settled. However, most of the time when I breast feed him he gets such bad wind after only a few minutes of feeding. He thrashes about and gets very distressed and is often sick. Feeding can go on for ages or it just means he snacks throughout the day and never has a full feed from me. Could this be my diet? I don't eat anything spicy as I have noticed that this makes him even worse

Also this does not happen everythime I breast feed him - during the night and first thing in the morning he is much better.

Feeling really upset at the thought of giving up BF. can anyone help? Got any suggestions?

It might be worth contacting a bf counsellor and seeing if the latch is ok?

Might give that a try - just assumed that latch was ok as DS has been gaining weight steadily and don't do anything different when he does feed well to when he doesn't.

I'm almost convinced its the breats milk as he often does this with EBM in a bottle.

Honestly, I would see a bf counsellor. They can help so much. There could easily be some small adjustment with the latch that would help, or some other information.

I loved my bf counsellor, I wanted her to move in.

can you hear a clicking sound when he is feeding? - could be a sign that the latch isn't quite perfect and he is gulping down air. i would second the advice of ringing nct or la leache league and speaking to a breastfeeding councillor

soremummy, tiktok has a life outside mumsnet and I'm off to have some of it now

Jen99 - this is gonna be brief, as pizza and red wine call

So that bf is miserable - unlikely to be latch, still less your diet, and more likely to be plain ol' vanilla generous supply....you are making lots and lots of wonderful milk for him (and the rest of the street!). You check all the boxes for this.

Try search mumsnet archives for one-sided feeding or block nursing for a remedy that is at least worth trying for a couple of days.
