Considering not breastfeeding because 38G nursing bras are £27+. What should I do?

Just a quick note as I'm going out the door, but I'll be back on to check responses tomorrow.

All nursing bras in size 38G are around £30 or more. I just can't afford it so I'm considering giving in before I've started and just bottle feeding. I've fought off everyone who's said bottle feed but now I'm at my wits end.

If I can't get a bra then I can't do it. My boobs are terrible as it is.

Does anyone know where I can get cheap bras?

Try Ebay for cheaper bra's.

I know what you mean about the cost, but just think how much you would spend on formula compared to a couple of bra's?

you can bf in a normal bra - it's just a faff in public.

you'll spend a lot more then that on formula milk and all the bottles, sterilising equipment etc.

bottles, formula and sterilising stuff will cost you a lot more than £30. A lot more.

I suppose you might get tokens for formula depending on circs, but not bottles, replacement teats etc etc--- adds up.

Sorry you're having problems, but surely formula + bottles etc must be more?
Hopefully someone will be around soon with somewhere you can get reasonably priced nursng bras. Mine were from M&S, £25 for 2 but not sure what size they go up to.

Bottles cost a packet.
Teats cost money too.
Wont you need a Sterilizer?

Are you sure the cost of the bra is the real reason?

mothercare 38G nursing bras are £14 eahc or 2 for £25, they were fine for me,

Orangeknickers, at 36F myself I would have found it impossible to bf in a normal bra. The cups are just much bigger and come up higher so you can't get your boobs out properly.

Mumblesmummy, I just used soft cup nursing bras from John Lewis - they weren't £30. They were also a bit horrible and I was glad to see the back of them but really, it was totally worth it. I have similar sized boobs to you and I found I managed ok with the ones in JL which weren't a perfect fit but did the job for the few months I needed it. And moveitmoveit is right - formula will cost much more.

Ok, this may seem glib but the cost formula and bottles etc would soon overtake the costs of a couple of bras. In an ideal world you would have 4 maybe but I coped with two and handwashed them as and when. just get the £12 bras from john lewis and develop an up and over technique. this really isn't an issue.

you want to breastfeed if you can because

a. it is good for baby
b. it ia good for you , lot sof happy hormones
c. it is a nice thing to do
d. bottles are faff.

btw it probably will hurt and you will get confused and need help but tbh it is worth it.

Formula will cost you far, far more anyway.

Honestly, having switched from bf to ff when my DS turned six months (because I went back to work and my milk supply dried up), formula is much, much more expensive that bfing. A box of formula (which lasts about a week) is 5-6 quid. I have big boobs too and had 2 bras and just rinsed them out overnight.

Are you any good at sewing? I bought some nursing bra clips off eBay for £2.50 and attatched them to a normal bra (you'll a bit of elastic as well).

It might hurt at first^. Maybe only a week or so. It's not usual for it to hurt beyond that.
