I have just suddenly been hit with a bout of the trots, and I feel like throwing up all the time, I am exclusively breastfeeding and my little one doesn't know how to use a bottle yet, can I still breastfeed him?

I would say yes.

If you are exclu bfing then whatever yucky bug you've got, likely as not your lo has been exposed to too and your body is better prepared and making defenses which are good to pass on.

so feed on. In between vomint. poor poor you I hate sicky bugs. bleugrh.

I'm no doctor, but I'm pretty sure it's ok, even though you may feel rotten. I'm sure someone who can confirm will come along soon, but I think it's ok. Hope you feel better soon

essential to continue breastfeeding, in fact....that way, if you and your baby have been exposed to the same pathogen, you will protect your baby with the appropriate antibodies in your milk

Yes, I read that you can (and have myself) Just bear in mind if you need to take medication that it's safe for bfing. Think it's pretty rare to have to stop during any 'ordinary' illness.

Try to sip at something like weak cordial, so you don't get too dehydrated. Hope you feel better soon.

Well I had a very rough night, upchucking and the trots, just feel so drained, dressing my toddler today felt like dressing a drunken man!

make sure you keep yourself well hydrated - when in a similar position, I carried on making loads of milk, but I became dehydrated myself.

When the same thing happened to me when DC4 was 6 weeks old, the doctor prescribed me an anti-emetic to stop me throwing up so I could rehydrate and keep BF. It worked, and the baby never got the bug (and I'm still BF, a year later ). You're probably over the worst now but but if you do keep throwing up, this drug is safe to take.

Hope you feel better soon; can sympathise as it was ghastly, and the toddler got it too. Be kind to yourself today!

Well my toddler has ended up with it today, hubby had to come home in the end. He's now tucked up in bed, hope he has a good sleep.

loopy - you could be me, we have all come down with diarrhea and sickness. we are now recuperating at the IL's, but now they've come down with it too. my biggest worry was that i can't even keep water down so keep passing out - i don't feel safe to carry him anywhere! hopefully we'll all be better soon though.

my friend suggested that i drink my own breastmilk - would this work? she said it's easier to digest and keep down and i'm not sure i fancy the idea tbh! if it cures this bug though i'll drink it!
