Infant feeding

When do boobs go soft due to supply balancing out? Do I have a supply problem?

I have a 4.5 month old who has been fully breastfed. She still wakes 3 times a night for a feed, often with a gap of 4/5 hours before the first feed. Previously my boobs would start to feel harder at this point, and for each subsequent night feed it would have been very clear which boob was last fed from as the other one would be significantly harder.

Over the last week all this has stopped. I now start the day with two breasts that feel soft and I no longer can tell which side to feed from just by feeling. I can't believe she is getting anything. Also, I have completely stopped wearing breast pads as I don't leak (even at night) and I have just realised that I haven't actually felt the let down for a while.

Is all the above normal at 4.5 months?

To add to matters I have just come down with some d&v virus and lost lots of weight and am still feeling weird and dizzy - I can't think that this can be helping.

Maybe I am just worrying unnecessarily, but she does seem to be much more fussy when she feeds and stretches my nipple out quite a long way. Tbh, the latch looks pretty shocking - but she knows what to do because we haven't had any problems prior to this.

OK have just been to kellymom...probably should have gone there first. Apparently it is normal anywhere from 6-12 weeks onwards.

Yes totally normal.

Everything you describe was exactly how I was. Whilst it can be worrying, I quite liked the feeling that my body was sort of returning to 'normal'.

I know you've answered yourself, but just to say that it's probably normal if your baby is feeding regularly. Enjoy not wearing breastpads!
I remember having a d&v virus when breastfeeding my eldest - it's really the last thing you feel like doing. Poor you. I think your body prioritises your baby's needs though - so while your supply might feel a bit low, she'll get what she needs.
My 4.5mo does the same with my nipples - have you ever seen the way lambs headbutt their mothers when they're feeding? That's what it reminds me of!
