thrush or milk blister?

R nip has always had a tiny white spot on it, long as I can remember, but at some point during the past 10m bfing it started to become associated with pain.

Now I've had mastitis in this boob 1x and fended it off 1x. Since early dec pain getting worse. Looked it up on Kellymom and the milk blister pic? Could've been me. Identical. Spot has not grown, spread, or gone to ds; appears to be beneath rather than on top layer of skin. It has scabbed slightly a couple of times (sorry tmi!) and when that lifts off in shower pain eases for a couple of days.

But now pain is fearsome and I have the same hit-by-a-truck feeling that went with my mastitis. Boob is excruciatingly tender, nip feels like needle/skewer in it and jiggling around.

I showed it to the doc last week and without actually looking she said "thrush - it's the most common complaint" - ordered me to treat with daktarin. Which (perhaps stupidly) I did not do because it didn't seem like thrush to me (please correct me if I'm wrong).

anyone had either or both? know how to spot the diff? think I will have to go in and argue with doc tomorrow and am unlikely to see female so want to know what I'm on about. Or if I should just stay home and hit the daktarin...

tia

Does it look like a blister, or more like a blackhead plug (only white, IYSWIM)?

it looked more like a blackhead plug, only white, and well under the surface.

only now the area around it is quite raw. earlier today he latched on then popped off and think I saw a little blood.

I had something similar a couple of months ago and it hurt like he££. I kept putting a hot flannel on it and eventually it seemed to disperse itself but I think skewer is a pretty accurate analogy!

I was only looking on here today because I have nip pain again, both sides like pins coming through (dd is 12 months now so OH just says "its time to stop anyway"!)but I don't want to!

Take a look at this and see if it helps.

If you were to pinch the base of your nipple with the pads of your thumb and forefinger, and squeeze the nipple as if you were trying to squeeze the contents out, would the plug look like it wanted to pop out? (not too dissimilar to squeezing a spot - but not using nails!)

I pop out nipple plugs all the time. If I didn't I would get blocked ducts regularly. Sometimes I can tell I have a plug because I get the sharp pricking feeling in the nipple, especially during a feed.
