to all users of the Avent ISIS IQ electronic breast pump - help

having recently bought it I am now thinking that I may have purchased a faulty product. This pump tends to gather some milk in and under the silicone diaphragm. I know there is no problem with the way I put all bits together - have checked with others too. Initially I bought the manual pump which was time consuming but at least it was collecting all the milk I was expressing where it should. I spent almost £90 for the electric one so I am not happy of loosing valuable milk through faulty parts. Does anyone use this pump and what are your experiences? Is it natural that some milk will be collected around the silicone diaphragm or have I bought a faulty product? I intend to call the Avent people as well but wanted to check here first.

Mine does the same so I can only assume its normal. When Im finished pumping I just take it apart and pour the little extra milk into the bottle with the rest - dont like to waste it either!

Yes, I used to get this too. It wasn't ever that much though, just a drop or two.

Oh and btw, you don't have to use the cushiony thing if you prefer not to.

Mine does this too, and I tip it into the bottle when i take it apart, it is not much though.
Great pump though, so much better than a hand pump

Actually mawbroon is right you dont have to use the cushion bit but I found it a bit uncomfortable without it.

I found that milk used to also accumulate in the top bit under the ?moving diaphragm bit. I used to take it off and pour in the few drops- ANY drops were precious to me. Well still are!

mine did that. both under the cushion and the diaphragm. enough that if it spilled, i would fret at my lost milk. (probably about 10 drops then.)

i pulled off the cushion and the cap to tip it into the bottle.

mine does that too, and I just pour it in afterwards. I have the double electric pump and it has meant that despite working an average of 56 hours a week since dd was 5 months she has not needed to have any formula - in fact, we've been throwing away spare breastmilk - so I am a HUGE fan of this pump

Mine was the same. oddly enough I actually preferred the Avent hand pump as it had a lot more oomph for me.

I have just contacted the Avent people and apparently there should NOT be any milk collected around the silicone diaphragm. They are sending me a new diaphragm to test it and have told me NOT to use the pump in the meantime.

Four people have already replied to say that theirs did the same too. Avent thinks that this should not be happening because it is dangerous that liquid is accumulated so close to an electric motor.

I have other Avent products like the sterilizer and the manual pump and I am satisfied with these. But could there be a manufacturing problem with their 'intelligent' electronic breast pump?
