How old is your baby?

Sounds normal enough to me. I stopped bf ds at 16 months and still have milk 6 months later.

Jas · 27/12/2007 00:34

If there is milk there and you are happy to carry on, then why wouldn't it be ok?

can i ask did you stop because he was a hungry baby or something? would you like to re establish feeding him?

Jas · 27/12/2007 00:39

Maybe if your supply is still ok you could try mixed feeding?

I've bf three huge hungry babies, so it is possible even if he is very hungry.

Report
TheLadyEvenstar · 27/12/2007 00:42

lol he wasn't huge but getting there he is very hungry though

I stopped 15 years ago and still have a tiny bit of milk... weird

Jas · 27/12/2007 00:43

Mine weren't born huge, they just grew . Alot

I've got to go to bed, too. Take care, and let us know how you (and your ds) get on

Why did you stop? can't you bf him and formula too if you don't want to fully breast? Or do you really dislike breastfeeding him?

colditz, i loved bf him, but felt i was not giving him enough as he was still hungry. i had been mix feeding him and i guess i just slipped into ff him fully kinda by accident. I would love to bf him again but wonder if although i still have milk will i be able to produce enough even to mix feed.

yes you can produce enough, but it will take a while to re-establish your full supply. you'd be better just bf though to improve your supply, especially if you love bf. i'd say ditch the formula if you can, he's probably just habing a growth spurt, and once your supply is back up, will start feeding a bit less often and for less time. if you mix feed, i think it's really easy to slip into mainly or fully ff. i speak from expreience with ds1, and i wish i'd had more support to fully bf for longer. i bf him for about 3 / 4 months, but think the ff was quicker for him to drink and my mum kept saying, i think he needs a bottle love, he's a really hungry baby. she was only trying to help, but it wasn't the best support in the world.

I'd go for it if I were you. He will fuss for a bottle if he's hungry, because it's easier to drink, but the breast is better for him. Even if he just gets a bit - give him some every time he's due aa feed then top him up after, if you want?
