Infant feeding

lact-aid supplementer query...

So, I want to relactate. I have to accept that I can't do it by pumping, as 1) I get nothing out and 2) I can't manage the time input.

Has anyone successfully used a nursing supplementer? Any tips? Any reasons not to use one? Most importantly, where to buy one?

Many many thanks.

hi thelady... i tried one, it was a real faff and quite messy and i hated it but some people report success... who's helping you to relactate, did you find a lovely bfc in jeddie?

OK Aitch, thanks for that. It was a last-ditch suggestion from a LLL leader on the phone - but I think I'm going to have to call time on this.

Hi thelady, a neighbour of mine did it using a Medela supplementer. It took a bit of getting used to but (i think this is right I will have to check) after 6 weeks she could feed without it.

If you want it I am absolutely sure she would send it to you.

thelady, tis Aitch. at least if you call time on it then it's your decision a bit. i did mix-feed for four and a bit months, it was nice and i'm glad i did. the pumping was a pita though... my supply was keech without doing that too. i used to bf for a bit then have formula for top-ups. i was on domperidone (also known as motilium as well). it might be nice to let the bfing slide, that's what happened to us. of course i wish things had been different but i'm pleased it phased itself out gradually as dd realised that it was heaps easier to get the milk from the bottle. i felt like it was her decision, in a way.

whatever you decide, i found that getting to the 6 months stage and weaning onto food was a great leveller, i just felt nice and normal again. i did blw with dd, so it wasn't stressy and felt a bit feeding on demand-y, so i felt like i was back to trying to do my 'natural' bit again. whether i was or wasn't...
