Just getting started in this BF game! Everything I read says GET SUPPORT and I am determined to make this work so that's what I want to do - but where from?! I know there is an NCT phone number - do you have to be a member? And are there other similar organisations?

Thank you thank you in advance!!

You don't have to be a member of the NCT to use their bf'ing service.

La Leche are another organisation, but I don't know much about them.

I would suggest if you find a councillor who you gel with, stick with them, as everyone has different methods and approaches which can be very confusing.

Also, moral support from your partner, family and friends (especially partner) is essential.

Good luck

oh, and don't forget all the lovely ladies on here. From memory Tiktok and Hunker and experts.

Caz10 - did you not get leaflets home from the hospital? You may find you have one with the local support numbers in it.

Breastfeeding support numbers
National Childbirth Trust 0870 444 8708
La Leche League 0845 120 2918
Breastfeeding Network 0844 412 4664
Association for Breastfeeding Mothers 08444 122 949

Ditto Tiktok and Hunker are the online experts.

Tiktok is an NCT trained breastfeeding counsellor.

HunkerMunker always states she isn't an expert but she knows so much and runs a breastfeeding blog with all the numbers and other useful information

Thank you SO much ninebabiesdancing!

Lots of phone calls tomorrow then!

Mears I got a leaflet home but it was about local drop in sessions, none of which were actually all that local to me (at least not when we still haven't got it together to leave the house ).

DH is being wonderful, I haven't lifted a finger to any domestic task since coming home! Can't imagine not having that help. And hats off to you ladies who have other LO's aaargh I couldn't do it.

We will get there!

Caz10, it is also worth seeking out the infant feeding coordinator / expert at your local hospital. This is a midwife who is an expert in breastfeeding, taken special courses in it that kind of thing. Your community midwife will be able to tell you who it is. Many midwives are not experts in breastfeeding so it is safe to assume yours isn't unless you're told differently.

Also it might be a great time to register with your local SureStart children's centre as many of them have support groups run by peer counsellors (like a very junior version of BFCs).

The phone lines are great too as posted by BE.

And of course, ANY questions, however daft they sound (or of course however well constructed and intelligent, as they will be from you), ask US - many of us have done it, had the problems/not had any problems, got through em or not, bought the T-shirt...
