.....and he was very grateful that I'd brought it to his attention

I had a phone consultation with one of the other GPs in the practice on Monday, and was given cream for DDs bum, nystatin drops for DDs mouth, and he said a course of fluconazole tablets for me. When I got the script he had prescribed 50mg per day for 7 days.

Today I went to baby clinic and told the HV I didn't think I had enough to get rid of the infection. She sent me in to see one of the other GPs, and, armed with the BreastFeeding Netowrk leaflet on Thrush advice for Health Professionals, I have come away with a further 10 days supply of 100mg fluconazole per day.

He was very interested in the leaflet and took a note of the website and that of Kellymom and said he would do some reading up on the subject.

Hopefully he will spread the word to the other GPs.

Why is this so unknown to GPs? and why are they so reluctant to prescribe fluconazole?

Yay Daisy well done you.

I was fortunate to have a similar enlightening experience with my GP who was so determined to read up on it she asked me to provide info and web links to it for her partners at the surgery.

But I agree it is so frustrating that there is little knowledge about it when there is plenty of info to be found on the web. I've also come across a number of HV who dismissed it through lack of knowledge.

I think the problem is also that a lot of health professionals assume and dismiss most pain and discomfort by putting it down to positioning, expecially in the early days of getting BF established.

You might also be able to help this poster here if you can, based on your experience.

oh, I'll post something later, but have got to go pick up my DS from his friend's just now.

I was interested in your self help stuff though....I have about 30 nappies and wraps that need treating as DD has had horrendous nappy rash from it.

Agree, nappy rash was awful here too, had to use Canesten on his bum for a few days to clear it - that may help if you aren't already doing it. Milton fluid is great at killing thrush but beware, it also bleaches!
