10 month old with teeth, not biting but causing grazes?

anyone else with experience of this please? it's only on one side but dd has managed to rasp (sp?) some serious grazes on my areole i am assuming with her teeth as she has two on both top and bottom now

it's really sore feeding her on that side and she refuses a bottle, any ideas what she is doing and how i can get her to stop please?

I had something like this, ds drew blood anyway. A child this age should be sucking with lips not gums, so a graze or cut is more likely to happen when they come off, or if they give you a playful nip or try teething on you - not from normal sucking. I said No firmly and took him straight off if there was any messing about. (Release suction with your little finger) I also recommend you see a breastfeeding expert, either health professional or bf counsellor through the voluntary organisations.

thankyou Elasticwoman, I must admit it feels as though she is doing something "different" almsot like she is flicking me with her tongue! maybe she is getting distracted towards the end of the feed and just messing about, I will have a word with my HV tomorrow, she's been pretty good so far

hopefully i can last out til then!

Definitely sounds like some sort of messing about. If the hv is not sympathetic and just tells you to wean, you'll know she probably hasn't a clue but doesn't like to say so.

just an update, brilliant HV suggested a "new position" for feeding on the lacerated breast, so now I am feding her rugby ball stylee on the left side and it doesn't hurt at all

my HV is ace, and thank you again Elasticwoman for the ideas

Great malta, really pleased your problem is being sorted out. I used rugby ball position myself as one breast wouldn't drain properly when I fed the normal way.
