my gran in law said that too
6 mths on the bottle, you don't need to feed once they've got some teeth

you have to understand its what they were told when they had their children. in 40 years time things will be different again but we will still think our way is best. i got this too from older relatives. one elderly aunt gave me a 'tip' about binding my breasts with 2 very tight bras and bandages when i got to week 30 of my pg to stop the milk!!!

unfortunately six months is seen as the norm and anything beyond that odd by lots of people. My MIL asks me every time I see her if DD is on the bottle yet

On the opposite side though, I had a telephone consultation with my gp this morning about thrush in my ducts, and he congratulated me on getting to 25 weeks and told me to keep up the good work.

Just don't let her make you give up! I'm breastfeeding my 8mo little boy and his 2yo sister and I think some older ladies do think I'm a bit strange! But yes, some think 6months is so old to still be on breast milk.

My husband wasn't breastfed at all and was given solids at only 4 weeks! (I hate to think what such a thing would do to a poor baby's tummy and everything else inside.) I guess that was just the standard advice back then! Not sure what my MIL thinks of me bfing both of my chidren for so long (LOL) - I just don't discuss it!

ah bless. it is a different generation. My MIL didnt mind me feeding DS in front of her (DH was formula fed) but after a while she asked 'do you really think breastmilk is better for him?'. I didnt take offence at all - she was bought up at a time when formula was the norm.
