Hi,

Just wondered if going to the denist and having a filling with injection would affect my breast milk with drugs ? plus he said he was going to clean them ...

Should i ask or does anyone know ?

Hmmm. Cleaning them will be fine (no drugs). I think I've always had to wait til after giving birth to have a filling - I never thought to mention that I would be bf.... now I'm worried and will watch this thread (with fingers in my ears).

What I mean is I'm sure I've had a filling while bf (but that doesn't make it ok). Def mention it to dentist.

Yes very true. When you've managed to get bf established it becomes second nature and you almost "forget" you're doing it.... unless you're swallowing say, a prescibed drug, you just don't always think. Yes let us know (I'm pg with no.3 so at least I'll know for afterwards - am eating way too much choc and too tired at night to brush teeth properly ).

PS Had to say - when I read your thread title I had a mental vision of someone sat in dentist's chair, mouth wide open, bf their lo No laws against I suppose!!

Local anaesthetic is no biggie while bf, afaik. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Hi

Had filling and 2 injections - dentist said all ok with bf as enzymes in the blood break the drug down ..
Mmmm still think its not right if you cant eat certain foods still whilst bf then how are drugs ok !

Hi there
Having a filling with local anaesthetic injection is absolutely fine whilst breastfeeding. The anaesthetic does not cross into the breastmilk. So be as numb as you like! I am a dentist, and coincidentally will be having a filling next week, I am breastfeeding still and fully intend to get totally numb. Good luck at the dentists!
p.s I have had mums breastfeeding their babies whilst I have done their treatment - if your baby needs feeding.....
