Boosting Supply In One Breast

DS is 6 wks and gaining weight at between 10oz and 1lb a week so far. Yup, a bloater!!! Feeds a lot during the day (often every 2 hours) but only feeds every 3-4 hours between 7pm and 4am (gets up at 6:30am).

Right breast is full to brimming, easily get 5oz out when pumping. Sprays when DS is feeding and leaks easily. Feels solid after 3 hours.

Left breast never feels as full and I'm worried that DS is starting to cotton onto the bigger supply of the right and not work as hard at the left.

When he's feeding on the right, should I pump the left at the same time to boost supply?

OR, is the left supply probably OK and it's the right that's producing too much?

DS went through a stage of preferring my right boob (I found it comfier to feed him that way round) so I started each feed on the left. If I tried to start on the right, he'd fuss and not feed when I switched him - he had to be hungry to feed from there! Then he seemed to forget he'd ever preferred the right side and fussed when he was put that way round. He's 30 weeks old tomorrow (eek!) and still a milk gannet, but he's forgotten he every had any kind of preference - he just takes it where he can get it! I did have a bit of lopsidedness when he was preferring one over the other, but it's evened out now (did ages and ages ago - it won't take six months!).

Sounds like you're doing a fantastic job and your DS is thriving

I did start writing this post a while ago, but started looking for a link I seemed to recall, but couldn't find it. Doh! Will look again and see if I can.

More one-sided preference here. My ds2 is 15mths, feeds morning and night - by his preference, we'll stop when he wants - and I honestly can't believe there's anything in the left hand side, but he does suckle for 10 mins a side - presumably less enthusiastically than on the right hand side as I still occasionally feel the milk come in there! However, never been so uneven that my bras haven't fitted reasonably well.
As said before, just remember to keep feeding him from the left side, even if that means you start on the left hand side for a while for a few feeds.

I have rarely fed from left breast. Still going strong on right at a year. Yet i could always express more from the left.
