"Active Breastfeeding" - what's the funniest position your LO gets into at the boob?

RoRoMommy · 05/11/2007 09:49

My DS has just started to prefer a new position to our normal lie-down one...he'll sit up next to my belly, lean over and bury is face on the boob from the top. It's hilarious because after a few sucks he lifts up his head, milk running down his chin, and blow raspberries! Not sure he's getting much this way, but he's definitely having a good time.

So I was wondering what other "active" breastfeeding positions other LOs get themselves into, that perhaps me and DS could try...? Not just for fun, but also because I still need to get milk into him even though he doesn't seem to want to feed laying down much unless he's going to sleep.

RoRo: I usually lie down (or prop mysefl up) and DS latches on however he chooses. He usually wriggles about a fair amount, pushing himslef up on his feet until he's an a v-position. Doesn't look that comfy but he's happy!

LOL at v-position. It doesn't hurt your breast to have the weight of his face on it? And does he have trouble getting air into his little nose? That's DS's challenge at the moment. It's a choice, breathe or eat?

I think after a year of bfing nothing hurts any more! He tends to grab hold of my boob and oummel it into the right position as well so he doesn;t have any problems...

so good to hear this is common! i consider ds to be doing yoga - downward dog position when feeding. similar to EP's i think. similarly, i've taken to just lying on the bed with boobs available and letting him do what he needs to. he figures it out. i just try to catch him when he's interested in flinging himself over the side ofthe bed. in the evening when he's calmed down a bit, i can often take him into his room and sit on the chair and feed 'normally' to finish off, but always has to start in this acrobatic circus style.

i also give ds things to do while he's feeding otherwise he seems to get bored. i've got a nursing necklace that sometimes helps or otherwise just something to hold in his hand can help him concentrate.

Ah! Nursing necklace! Would that stop him from snapping my bra straps into my armpits? Ouch. Something to hold in his hand...am thinking it would end up being banged on my face

yeah, don't give him anything too hard or you will have bruises! www.mommynecklaces.com/ this is the kind of necklace i have. the only downside i'd say is that the clasp can be pulled apart by an energetic ds, but other than that it's very good.

Thanks for the link! Definitely getting a couple of those. DS is going to love it, tho I suspect he might prefer to put that in his mouth from time to time...

those neckalces look lovely. DS has a habit of grabbing hold of my bra and pushing the cups back and forth - as I'm back in underwires it can be a bit painful!

my ds pulls hair which i hate, or just flicks the strap of my bra, which is bareable, or smacks himself really hard in the head, which is just plain strange
haven't been game to get back to underwires yet. maybe a thought for next year ...

LOL on hitting his head...DS just started smacking his fat little cheek with his chew-toys (I know, makes them sound like they're for our dogs, but he does chew on them...). He looks hilarious doing that, and often gets into a rhythm whilst watching the "laundry show" (our washing machine turning the clothes round and round).

I'm with Amber, no underwire for me...Effie, what brand are you using, maybe it's time to tame these tigers...

DS is currently squatting next to me and jiggling up and down whilst bf. Every so often he bangs his head against my face (ouch!)

RoRo; am back in my Prima Donna bras (Rigby & Peller, expensive but worth it). I'm about an f cup, so nursing bras were hellish for me. Went back to normal bras months ago and have never regretted it!

Yesterday I was in the bath with DS (17 months) and he was sat behind my left shoulder when the need for num nums took over and he latched on. He also likes to lie on top of me, tummy to tummy, but lengthways and make swimming motions with arms and legs.
DH calls what happens in bed in the morning 'suck and maul' as it looks more like a rugby match than whats in the books. DS is a real wriggler these days and it could be anyway up - I just lie there and let him decide.

I had a nursing necklace, but tired of getting it stuffed up my nose.

My ds who is 2 likes to wiggle round so that his bum is in my face when we are feeding lying down.

Also, a couple of times when I have come out of the shower, he's stood on his tiptoes and latched on as I am drying my feet! A bit cheeky eh?

I love it I love it! SO funny. Lots of cheeky DSs! Can't wait, let the acrobatic begin.

DS likes to pinch me. He'll take a tiny amount of skin and roll it between his finger and thumb as if it was snot. It bloody hurts.

llareggub · 05/11/2007 21:44

Me: lying in the bath, reading a book. Along toddles DS, peers over the side of the bath and grabs my v large and saggy nork and latches on.

A short snack later, he leaves me in peace.

Uberalice, how funny, ds does exactly that. It's the tinyness of the bit of skin, isn't it?

well gecko isn't very acrobatic at the mo at 9 months
BUT when feeding in bed at night she happily latches on lying down next to me and then closes eyes, reaches over to other nipple and rolls it between her fingers like shes trying to tune a radio and then occasionally pulls on it or digs her nails in [ouch]

jamila169 · 05/11/2007 23:52

ROFL trinity! DD (2.6) does the radio tuning thing as well! Today she knelt on the sofa at the side of me and hooked herself on so she could watch pocoyo with at least one eye! She also likes tucking herself into my top and sticking her feet through the armhole.
