Infant feeding

How and when do I start weaning DD on to cow's milk??

She's 10.5 months old and I want to put her on to cows from 12 months. She's currently feeding (BF) morning and evening. How do I do it?? (what order and also over what period of time to stop me getting mastitis)

Also - her morning feed is the second that she wakes up and she won't tolerate any delay, not even to change her nappy first.

Her evening feed will be easy enough I'm sure - she drinks water out of a beaker and has had the odd formula feed from a beaker too, so assume this will be ok.

Which feed do I swap first?

swap whichever one you want first - it is whatever suits you. In your case your lo sounds most attached to the morning feed so it may be easier to do the night one first.

Hi,

I would get her used to drinking cow's milk now. Drop the formula and get her taking cow's milk from a beaker - maybe try it warm so she gets a taste for it. You don't have to wait until 12 months as long as it isn't their main drink and at the mo breast milk is still your babies main drink.

Not too much advice on dropping bfeeds -i am still doing morning and bedtime at 19 months. Morning is the main one like yours and if I am away she can just do without or have cow's milk. I've left her for 2 nights with no probs. I don't think that you need to worry too much about mastitis if you drop down to one feed at this stage and then drop the morning one when you feel ready.

I'm guessing that you do want to stop bfing completely BTW? Think I'm just too lazy to drop that morning snoozy feed just yet.
