Hungry baby formula

Ds is 10 weeks old and demand fed. He has anything between 2 and 6 oz at each feed (normally 4 or 5). He can feed every 2 hours during the day (although he has one long sleep of 3-4 hours) and sleeps anything between 3 and 5 hours at a time at night. I try to give him more to space his feeds out but he refuses it. I'm wondering whether to give him hungry baby milk or not. He's perfectly happy the way he is but he will be going to a childminder in a few weeks when I go back to work and I need him in more of a routine. Also, he is still waking once or twice every night and I'm going to be a zombie if he's still doing this when I'm having to get up at 6:30am every day.

Can hungry baby formula cause them to have more wind/indigestion? Does he really need this or am I just being selfish wanting him to be in a routine and sleep longer - please be honest.

he sounds like a normal 10 week old tbh. It's still perfectly normal for him to be waking a few times at night.
I wouldn't bother with hungry baby formula myself

Gill, I've never really used formula at this age ( so feel free to disregard me!) but to me, it seems if he sometimes will only take 2oz at a feed that he will be taking even less food if you switch him to hungry baby formula? I would have thought that you only switch to hungry baby if he's polishing off a lot of big feeds very frequently! He sounds just my bf babies were at this age although obviously I had no idea of how many ounces they were taking! ( Damned opaque boobs!)

Hi Gill

My 14 week old has been on hungry baby formula for about 2 wks now but I only switched when he was polishing off quite large amounts at every feed (6 oz or more) He didn't have any more wind or indigestion though so I wouldn't let that hold you back - the only thing is once you have switched you haven't really got any where to go, if you see what I mean, so I would probably stay on your original for a few more weeks if I were you until he is taking abit more at each feed.

We switched DS3 over to hungry baby at 3/4 weeks old. (and DS2 at 1 week - he drank 4 1/2oz of the normal stuff with his first ever bottle at 5 days old and never stopped after that LOL).

I'm not sure if it made a difference or not tbh. BUT I would continuing at working to see if you can stretch the feeds out a little more before making the switch.

my ds had to switch to hungry baby formula but he was finishing whole bottles and looking for more at 5 weeks if he is happy and healthy on his formula i wouldnt switch waking through the night at ten weeks sounds normal, hbf never caused ds any more wind or indigestion but i think its only recomended if very necessary,if baby is very unhappy, screaming with hunger so on

should add ds was only 5.3 so their needs cant really be judged by their size imo

Amy, my ds3 was 5.3 as well!

No, emergency CS 8 weeks early, unfortunately! Now he probably would have been a 12 pounder if he came when he was supposed to!

"QoQ, are all your boys big for their age now?"

Yes you could say that LOL.

DS1 is one of the tallest in his year (but very "lean" - although he was BF so I have NO idea how much he drank.......but it was a very frequent).

DS2 (who's 3, nearly 4) is a big "solid" boy - he's on an equal size with most of the YR1's at DS1's school and the same size as one or 2 of the YR2's although he's chunkier he's still quite slim (which reminds me I must try and find DS1 and DS2 some belts at their trousers keep falling down LOL).

DS3 was 5 months old yesterday and at last weighing (1 1/2 weeks ago) was 18lb 11 1/2oz (he was 7lb 6oz at birth) and is mainly in 9-18 month stuff!

In fact none of my DS's were particularly big at birth (7lb 5, 7lb 11 and 7lb 6) so on "weight" you wouldn't have thought they'd been particuarly hungry/turn out to be big boys but they are.

LOL at the belts because I am trying to potty train ds3 at the moment and I never realised till now what a skinny-arse he is! In cloth nappies his trousers stay up, in pants they fall down!

slight diversion - Chipmonkey I have the same prob with my previously colth nappied tall but skinny almost 3 year old, I found that Adams have started doing a slim fit in their little boys trousers and they are wonderful (and very reasonably priced).
