breastfeeding and martyr to wind - suggestions please?

DS is 8 weeks old & exclusively breast-fed. He rarely burps so all painful wind comes out as fart! With all the drama in the process (poor soul). Has been on infacol for a week but if anything it has made it worse not better. Now having to bring him into grown-up bed at night to soothe him, otherwise wouldn't get any sleep at all. Usually he's in a moses basket at the side of the bed. Broken sleep becoming increasingly ragged - any suggestions? How long might it last?

Hello, same problem in this house but with wind and poos. Two cups of fennel tea a day drunk by me tends to sort dd out. Poos well and little wind. Good luck.

I found dentinox better than infacol.

Something is helping, and fennel tea is quite nice. Still hope he grows out of it soon tho. Thanks ladies.

My dd suffers from wind going down rather than up. I spoke with the health visitor about resolution as dd doesn't react well to Infacol. She showed me some baby massage techniques that are doing the trick (almost too well ). Speak with your health visitor about baby massage as it's a lovely opportunity to interact with your baby more as well as to solve the problem.

hi blue, my DD didnt burp in the first weeks either. but now that she is 13 weeks old and im more confident positioning her in different ways to make her burp, she has started burping.

i just wonder if it was something to do with her digestive system or if it was the positioning... and im also waiting longer for her to burp, like 6/10 minutes on my shoulder as opposed to 2/3 minutes as i used to do in the beginning. its just an idea.

my ds has just developed what appears to be a problem with wind. he's bf too. hv said today to try some granules - cant remember the name but wrote it down somewhere. sorry thats not really helpful.

but will try the massage etc as well to see if that works.

meant to say - he's 11 weeks so will maybe try the burping as well to see if he can do it better now.

Thanks for all the suggestions! Have changed to dentinox which has started producing the odd burp. Thanks for tip on burping time tho' - no advice previously on that. Only prob is he hates taste of dentinox, whereas infacol was acceptable. Oh well, got it now, so it will get finished. Also starting yoga/baby massage course at end of month anyway, so will be sure to ask about wind.

we had big problems with wind - still do sometimes even though DD is 16 weeks. One mum on here (sorry can't remember name) suggested an interesting burping technique... sit baby on your knee facing forwards and gently but quickly pump one arm up and down 6 times then the other - it can give startling burp results but be prepared for spit up too! My DD will only let me do it when sleepy and it doesn't work always but has helped us get a few extra night's sleep
