Infant feeding

11 months, no bottles, how much milk, when?

Ds has been showing much less interest in b/f in the last few weeks and I've taken the opportunity to cut down on feeds. Timing seems to be right for both of us. He's down to 2 feeds now - first thing and last thing. He's showing less interest in the am feed so I've been giving him some formula in a cup with his breakfast, after a b/f.

I'm just not sure how much formula I should be giving him. Bottles are out so he drinks from a free flow cup (v. messy), he is dairy intolerant so the formula he has is Nutramigen. I can get 8 - 10oz into him at breakfast time and then another 4 oz or so in the afternoon. Should I be giving him this milk in the afternoon or just wait till I've dropped the bedtime b/f and give him his formula first and last thing? What's the minimum I should be aiming for? Some sources say 350mls others more. We're off to the dietician soon re his dairy challenge so will consult with her regarding fat and calcium intake. Any advice, suggestions, experiences?

I don't know what the 'right' answer is to this but this is what I do...
Ds2 is 10.5 months and I stopped bf about 6 weeks ago. He has one bottle 4-6oz at bedtime and otherwise has a cup. I tend to make 16oz formula for a day at home and it usually all gets used up: 4-5oz on cereal, a small amount from a cup at breakfast (?1-2oz); and maybe 3-4oz mid-morning and the same mid-afternoon from the cup. Its not all that rigid though, sometimes I forget to offer milk in the morning, although usually he's quite keen for some in the afternoon. he eats very well and will usually have milk sauce or yoghurt twice a day. I suppose I am aiming for roughly a pint including what he has in food.

You sounds as though with the bf he is definitely getting plenty of milk. I expect you could get away with dropping the afternoon milk but if it was me I'd probably keep it going (just my personal preference really).

btw I've always understood the 'official' recommendation after the age of one is a minimum of 12oz and maximum of 20oz milk to drink.
