Infant feeding

When did latching on stop hurting for you?

My DD is 9 days old and feeding well and frequently. It is just so painful when she first goes on that I am getting more and more reluctant to do it. - I am even getting weird pains in my elbow and side at the same time which must be psychological - I am sure it was never this bad with DS and I know that it did stop hurting at some point because I fed him for 17 months and I really wouldn't have if it had been like this. Anyway I was looking for some reassurance that this will stop hurting at some point and wondering if any of you remember when the pain went away for you?

Despite being a very keen breast feeder I keep thinking how much easier it would be to reach for the formula. My milk supply doesn't seem to be a good as last time either and DD feeds for really long periods at a time - still lots of yellow poos so there must be enough. Just want to be enjoying BF more but I suppose it is early days

agree - after about two weeks latching on became a lot less excruitating. milk supply took a little longer to sort out - took me about six weeks before i felt we were on track.

two weeks with dc 2.
three weeks with dc3

i used to get dc to latchon and get the milk flowing, gritting my teeth through the pain, then once the tap was on, slip baby off, stick on nipple shield, and put baby back on.
helped my nipple heal, and my prevented babies from being hurled accross the room.
