Infant feeding

17 weeks - feeding patterns

DD feeds roughly 4 hourly during the day and takes between 5-7 oz each time. we are still giving her a dream feed at about 11, it seems like she needs it as she regularly has 6+ oz at this feed.

Was talking to someone today who seemed shocked that we were giving her a late night feed. DD is 17 weeks, gaining weight, generally happy and healthy so why am i worrying?

People say all kinds of malarky, Orchide - I had one insisting my ds should've been on solids from the time he weighed 10lbs (ie, when he was 2 wks old!)

So just stick with what's working for you and DD, I reckon. She's happy, you're happy, it ain't broke so don't fix it!

nah, not just you orchide - there's me with happy, chubby bubby, 11 weeks or so, reading @%$*!! Penelope Leach: if your baby weighs over 12lbs and is feeding more than 5 times a day, it is too hungry and you should start solids. (I paraphrase.)

Me: hmm, ds is like, 16lbs, and feeds (...counts on fingers, shakes head, counts again) 12 times a day

Do I say "pfeh Penelope Leach" and chuck it behind the couch? Do I heck - dh comes home to find me sobbing. FFS. I reckon it's hormones. They addle the perfectly good brains of previously sensible women like you and me.

it's okay, we've got past that now. (he's 24 weeks today, that was a while ago - just wanted to let you know I totally got the motherhood = self doubt thing)

good luck with your lo!
