How much expressed milk

Hi - not posted before, but need some advice and you seem like a friendly bunch!

Got to be quick as DS is calling - he's six months old and I'm going back to work this afternoon.

I have expressed milk in the fridge and freezer for him, but am wondering how much he's likely to take each feed. Am I right in guessing it'll be between 5 and 6 oz?

Any help would be much appreciated - should've posted sooner I know!

That sounds like a reasonable amount to me - and basically you have to just try it and see how you get on. I used to send in two 7 oz bottles of EBM for my dd when she was 6 months and I was returning to work, but often she would leave an ounce or two.

Good luck.

mine never took much more than 4-5 oz at a feed.

Maybe go for about 15 oz for the session - any left over you can use to make custard or rice or something (beware it stinks when cooking but they don't seem to mind - or maybe that was just mine ?)

Thanks ladies - I'll see how I go. Going to get some out to thaw for DH (to give to DS, not actually 'for', you understand. That would be gross and weird).

I've been told babies up to 6 months take about 25-30oz of breastmilk a day (very approximately) - so to get a ballpark figure, divide by the number of feeds in a day but remember they won't necessarily take the same amount at each feed. By trial and error you find out what they take - my ds2 takes about 6 oz at the 10.30pm feed and he's 5mths.

hi Hunkermonker,

there was a thread on this about a month ago. My dd3, nearly 6 months old, has been having expressed milk at nursery, she was having 3 bottles of 5-6 oz during the nursery day. but this last week has started having more solids and has cut down on milk, moving onto 3 bottles of 4-5 oz. I think she'd cope on less now she's getting her teeth (tooth, more accurately) into the solids.
