Windy baby - any ideas, please?

My 6 week old has suffered from dreadful wind and accompanying pain since she was about a week old. I'm really feeling for her and can't work out why she gets such bad wind. Am beginning to wonder if she's allergic to something in my breastmilk...

She's a good feeder, and the wind seems worse in the evenings when she can cry and scream as if in agony. It's v depressing to watch her. I then hear her release it in the early hours of the morning as she farts like a trooper, giving some release. Often accompanied by some explosive nappies - she goes loads during the day. She's always fine in the mornings and early pm, making me wondering what's causing the build up.

I've been to the docs, tried Infacol and baby massage, but to no avail. Anyone know why some babies are windier than others?

My DD would scream the house down from about 5pm every evening.

HV told me to lay her face down across my knees/thighs, so her head & shoulders were on one knee and her tummy was on the other knee, with her bum and legs dangling down.

Looks bizarre, but it really truly did help my DD as it applied gentle pressure to her tummy and helped to release teh wind.

Give it a try, I do hope it helps as I know how upsetting it is.

Thanks, MamaG - I haven't tried that position - will give it a go.

Was thinking too, that she doesn't feed for long during the morning and pm - about 10-15 mins a time, but often. She tends to have longer feeds towards the end of the day. Wonder if that's contributing, but no idea how to change it .

my ds suffers from wind as well, infacol and massge didn't work for him either, the only thing which seems to help i gripe water, we give him half a dose in the middle of his feed and he does a huge burp at the end usually.
