How much expressed milk for a 6 week old

I am fed up with feeling torn in half by my 2 DS at bedtine so thinking of giving DS2 a bottle tonight so Daddy can do something (bf at moment). I just expressed 2ozfairly easily, but how much is he likely to take? Gave DS1 a bottle but later on and can't remember amounts!

Feeling torn about whether to do it too, but guesing it will make life easier (no idea why i feel bad as mix fed DS1 from 10 weeks)

Theres a calculator on Kellymom milk calculator.
The bedtime feeding frenzy does get better with time though, so might be worth riding it out.

Took 2 oz happily so at least I now know he will take a bottle. still wanted more from me though but did make it all a bit calmer! Can I mix expressed milk and formula. ie if I have expressed 2oz can I top up with 2oz formula??

melrose,

I used to mix EBM and formula in the same bottle and no problems, so think its ok.

I've just started expressing but only got 1oz today. If I put the bottle in the fridge and sterilise the pump between feedings, can I try expressing at every feed and just add it to the bottle to get a full feed?

I was thinking of adding formula to my 7pm feed as my milk supply is very low by this time and my DS fusses at the breast after 5 mins. Either that or diluting it with cold boiled water to increase the volume?

franni, def don't add water as it will dilute the fat content of your milk. you shouldn't have a low milk supply i don't think - my lo used to always be really fussy at about 7ish, and feed loads and loads and i always used to think i didn't have enough milk - but he just has a massive feed at that time, and usually they're really fussy by the end of the day anyway, having experienced loads ! he used to build up wind as well and b v windy by that time of night.

it will get easier. if you introduce a bottle it will affect your own supply at that time, although your body will adapt.

melrose why don't you try expressing early in the day, at that age it's quite easy to express from one side whilst feeding from the other, then that should give you about 4-6oz ? don't feel guilty, we always find that daddy giving ebm at 11 helps him sleep longer
