Stopping breastfeeding and PND

I Have just stopped breastfeeding my nearly three year when old. He was only really having a feed before bed, but now he wants "normal milk" like his brother, and to go to bed alone.

This is good, but i've been feeling really down. I stopped feeding Ds1 when he was about 10 weeks, and got really bad PND.

I'm really hoping it's not happening again and I'm a bit scared. Does anyone know if there is a link, or experienced anything similar?

I dont really know whether there is a direct link but there surely must be a significant hormonal change when you stop lactating, not to mention the normal emotions which you may be experiencing around stopping.

Your PND first-time round might not have been directly linked to stopping feeding, it might have just been one of those things. Although bf apparently releases a hormone which induces a feeling of well-being and sleepiness in mother and baby.

I came on here to post that I am feeling sad about stopping feeding my 22 month old. Just feel sad coz neither of us was ready to stop but boobs were too sore and it wasnt working really. Feel like an era has ended and our relationship is different.

But back to you - good on you for carrying on for three years and really hope your feeling down doesnt get any worse .
