My breast milk goes sour very quickly - too much Lipase - any clues???

Hi,

I have a bit of a feeding dilemma on my hands. I desperately don't want to resort to formula feeding my little one so please don't suggest that.

My daughter (6mths) starts nursery next week for two days a week. She'll be there for at the most four feeds during the day. Up until now, I've only fed her from the breast. She takes the bottle ok sometimes - I need to persist with that one, but I've noticed that my breast milk seems to go sour very quickly.

I did a search online and found that there are some women who have too much Lipase in their milk. Lipase being the enzyme that breaks down the fat in the milk. If you have too much the milk starts to break down very quickly after being expressed and starts to taste rank! It makes my daughter very very reluctant (to the point of meltdown) to drink the expressed milk. It doesn't matter how I store the milk. If I refrigerate it still goes bad, and if I freeze it, it tastes ok for about half an hour after it's thawed, then goes bad again.

The solution on the website I read about Lipase on, suggests I heat the milk to kill the enzyme, but this I know kills everything else that's good about breast milk. So, this will probably effect the nutrients my daughter gets, right???

Has anyone else come across this? If so, what did you do? Is there something I can change in my i.e. diet? that will effect the enzymes in my breast milk? Quick though... I've got until next Tuesday, when she starts... not enough time to wean her on to solids (which she also flatly refuses - but that's a different forum!)

Thanks!

If she is only in nursery for 2 days a week then it should be fine for her to get milk that's been heated....presumably she will be fed direct from source the rest of the time?
