Infant feeding

fidgeting whilst breastfeeding

My 5 month old is very fidgety and restless whilst breastfeeding and taking his solids. This makes it quite difficult to feed him as he is constanly wriggling around. Any ideas ?? He sometimes gets upset when I'm feeding him his solids. It is as though I am not feeing him fast enough.

My dd got very nosy at this age and started to turn her head when bf. What I have to do now is go somewhere quiet, turn telly low etc and feed her there. Offer her the breast a couple of times and if he's still fidgeting he doesn't want it so take it away and when he really wants it he'll feed. As regards the solids- don't get too stressed- try to give him a small bf first to sate him a little bit and then give him his meal. remember that bm is adequate for his nutritional needs until he's 6 months so really now is just getting him used to it. HTH

This continues too unfortunately. dd now 6 mths has always been a movey baby and it hasn't got any better. Agree with pixiefish you just have to take away as much of the distractions as you can.

DD is 4 months and we have the same problem. If anyone talks while I feed her she turns her head around, normally with my nipple still in her mouth I notice she feeds well for a bit and then messes about and pops off and smiles and then pops back on and so on. Now ive become a bit more cruel and after a bit of messing about I just take her off and wind her. If she was that hungry im sure she would feed and not fidget. She feeds fine at night when shes hungry and theres no distractions.

DD (5 months) always looks most put out when I laugh while she's feeding. I guess everyone is right, they need less distractions.

I had this with my little one! Don't worry, they get past it.

I found tucking his legs under my opposite arm helped to stop him wriggling about while bf. On solids I didn't seem to be able to shovel the food in fast enough for him, again he seemed to get past that when his food became a little chunkier but he still gets grumpy sometimes even though I don't blend it anymore. He's just a gannet
