I have mastitis since Friday and feel like its finally settling down. I am on antib. But my problem now is I don't seem to have enough milk to feed my baby. Did anyone experience this? Will my milk come back or are my breast feeding days over. I fed her on me all the time she never got a bottle. Please help I am Feeling very low.

I had very bad mastitus with dd and did lose the milk on one side, but carried on feeding fine from jsut one side. I could only get drops out of the affected side after mastitis. I had it again with the dts and it didn't affect my supply at all. If you can, and it isn't too painful, jsut keep feeding. How old is your baby? If she is still small, then try spending lots of time tucked up in bed with her, skin to skin and jsut keep feeding her to re-establish your supply. Good luck. x

rest rest rest!! If you possibly can that is, easier said than done. I would guess that you're tired, poorly and your body is putting lots of energy into fighting the infection. I've had mastitis twice and found that the 2nd time I just went to bed with baby and lots of magazines (and mn of course!) and I got over it faster and easier and with less pain!! My milk supply on the side with mastitis dropped quite a lot, but thankfully the other side seems to have lots. Also, I find my milk supply drops in general when I'm run down/tired/ill.

I think you will find your supply picks up again fine. How old is your baby? Could they be having a growth spurt too???

Hope you're feeling better soon xx

That's rotten. Your DD may just be upset by you being unwell (they can be amazingly sensitive to how we feel) and want lots and lots of cuddles/feeds. If so, go with it cos that'll boost your milk supplies. Be good to yourself!

gmb,

I had Mastitis 4times with dd1 and so far i have had it twice with dd2. Each time i noticed a MASSIVE drop in supply, but managed to get it back to normal in no time at all.

nurse, nurse, nurse as much as you possibly can and also express from the affected side.

Does it feel hard or tender in certain areas?
Do you still have a blockage there?

  • feed on all fours and try to massage down towards the nipple.
  • massage and hand expressing is how i managed to clear the blockage.
*eat Oats in form of porridge, oat cakes, oat cookies to boost your supply
  • Loads of skin to skin contact and use a sling loads if you have one - this definately get the prolactin pumping
