My 10wk ds does a poo about every 5 days and in the 2 days prior to this he is seriously windy(stinks!)and uncomfortable, and he fusses at the breast and sicks up only in the 2 days before almost like there is no room for more milk.
When he goes it is normal and he does about 5 nappies in one day, he is bf, any advice?

Yes, look ay your diet. Do you eat lots of wind producing foods like onions, beans, cabbage etc??? My DD is 8 months and still stores her poo up sometimes then has 'poopy day' when she goes like a train!

You could try offering several teaspoons of cooled boiled water everyday to try and get him into a better pooping pattern though.

It is normal for the bowel movements of a breastfed to decrease in frequency when the colostrum, which has laxative properties, is completely gone from the mother's milk after about six weeks of age. A baby this age may continue to have bowel movements as frequently as five times a day, sometimes even after every nursing. It is also normal for a breastfed baby older than six weeks to have only one bowel movement every few days. Some healthy babies will have only one bowel movement a week. When bowel movements are less frequent, they should be more profuse in volume. As long as the baby is gaining well, wetting sufficiently, and is happy and content there is no cause to be alarmed by infrequent bowel movements, and it is not necessary to give the baby a laxative, fruit juice, or any other "helpers." In fact, attempting to force bowel movements can have harmful consequences to your baby.

hope this helps. a lot of babies get windy and uncomfortable before they poo, is quite normal. its a pretty new sensation for them, and takes them some time to get used to it. my LO is now 6 months, and smiles and thinks its funny when he does a poo, which is a huge change from when he was 6 weeks.

My dd was like this for quite a while and I worried at the time but was reassured that it's because there's little 'waste' from the breast milk so they have less to reject. I seem to remember that when she did go, she really went, quite an explosion. It all seemed to even out around 6 months and she went more frequently.

my LO is BF and at about 10wks (he is 13 wks now) he started the farting and only pooing every four days, I think it is normal only embarassing when they do a loud fart in public and everybody looks at you!
