Mum losing weight after stopping breast feeding

My SIL told me that she lost about half a stone almost immediately on stopping breast feeding.Did anyone else find this (she asked hopefully)??? Although I only put on 1 3/4 stone when I was pregnant, I've only lost one stone since the baby was born 3 months ago. I was blaming the breast feeding (and my huge appetite) for the remaining weight. Am I clutching at straws here???

( Sorry if this should be on the weight loss thread!)

I don't know about losing weight after bfing, but I did loose an awful lot during bfing (fed dd until 16 months) It really did help shift it!

I lost 1 st within 1 month after stopping breast feeding. I could not lose the weight whilst breast feeding, partly because I was eating so much but also I believe I was retaining a lot of water. I think it depends on your metabolism, but I did find that I could lose much more after stopping.

Oh goody. I lost about 2 stone (was whale-like) in the first month after dd was born, and then nothing (she's 13 months now). So still have 1 and a half stones to go. And she's decided this week that she wants to wean herself off her last feed - just not interested any more! - mixed emotions.
Looking forward to, hopefully, a bit of weight loss with any luck.

sorry to be the voice of doom - but I put on weight while I was breastfeeding and didn't lose it afterwards. I am a stone heavier now (kids 18 months) than I was when they were 3 months old .

I guess it just varies from individual to individual.

I didn't lose any weight while breastfeeding, and I didn't lose any when I stopped either. Sorry
Am now pregnant again and getting fatter again but hey ho, there are much worse things that can happen to you. Weightwatchers works for lots of people, you just have to stick to it!

I lost weight without too much difficulty twice after bf, but found it impossible to lose while bf. both times I ended up the same weight or less than before getting pregnant so there is hope.

am finding the same again while bf dd3 (now 4 months old). I just can't lose it while still bf. hope that helps.

in libby purves she says she only lost after bf so it's a good time to try for many people by the looks of it.

my dd is almost 12 weeks and i have been going to weight watchers since she was 7 wks. i have only lost 4 lbs as i have an ENORMOUS appetite, so most days have well over what I should, but just knowing i have to be weighed and pay for the privilige gives me the motivation to sometimes make the healthier choice! i.e. an apple or banana rather than a mars bar to get a quick nrg boost.

it works for me

I think it's pretty common to lose once stopping breast feeding a) becasue you need to eat more whilst bf so as long as you exercise a bit of self discipline afre stopping this should help b) because you still retain some extra fluid whilst bf and c) because those huge tits must weigh a bit .
I for one am looking forward to being able to do up a normal shirt and get into more than two or three of my tops again.

I lost half a stone without trying when DS2 went onto solids. I'm hoping the other excess stone and a half will miraculously fall off when I finally stop doing it all together
