a numpty question about bf baby 9 months and formula

I should know this I am sure but I don't.

I have a 9 month old baby who is eating solids and water and bf on demand.

Is there any problem with giving the occasional formula feed when I am out? I know the whole virgin gut thing but since introducing solids does it matter?

It never came up with dd1 because a) she wouldn't drink from a bottle and b) she was intolerant of cows milk.

DD2 does not seem to be intolerant of cows milk. I just can't be arsed expressing if i don't have to.

Why would you need to give any kind of bottlefeed? How long are you going to be out? She'll be fine - just need a bit more food and access to water. Probably. Or maybe not. Babies are funny buggers.

DS1 used to guzzle ebm when I went back to work, DS2 would have 3oz all day on a good day and sometimes none. Both are fine. No need to give formula if you don't need to - and unless you're away for a a few days then there's no need, IMO.

There shouldn't be any problem at all. When DS was 8 weeks old, I introduced a formula feed for the last feed at night so DH could do it to give me a break (I found expressing far too painful so gave up on that) and he was fine. He's 3 now and eats like he is a bottomless pit!!

Formula isn't poison, it's cows milk adapted for babies. Once you've broken the exclusive bf routine surely its no worse than cows milk, yoghurt etc.

No, it's not poison.

But it's not just cow's milk adapted for babies either, it has other additives that haven't been tested as thoroughly as I'd like them to be.

I felt if it wasn't necessary, I'd rather the boys didn't have it, since I wasn't sure what was in it.

of course there isn't any problem giving formula when out and about
my 8 motnh old has formula occasionally - (but never when I'm out, far easier to breastfeed than faffing aobut with bottles etc etc !)

I know when DS1 was about 10mo and still drinking a fricking pint of ebm on a Sunday when I was at work, I did have a look at formula on the shelf in the supermarket. But I read the labels, and decided against it, because I'd got so far with bfing.

I am not unsupportive of women who choose formula, I don't judge them, I just knew it wasn't what I wanted to do, esp not at 10mo.

oh and er out as in me out sans offspring btw.

I have no qualms about feeding when out. I BF dd1 when out past two years old. And when pregnant. (that would be me pregnant not dd1 btw )

I still haven't dusted off the breastpump for dd3, it's unlikley that I wont at her age now
