Majorly lopsided - help!

Help! My DD1 is now 8 months and we have been through 4 or 5 bouts of mastitis which have been getting progressively worse. They are always on the right breast. My right breast has always been a bit bonkers since my milk first came in. It produced so much more milk from the start. We haven't had a bout for a while now but my right boob is now ENORMOUS and my left one always seems to be quite soft. It is just getting beyond a joke. I have been trying to always feed her off the left first but do need to clear the right or I will have another bout plus she gets a bit fed up on the left and I have to shift her over. I tried to pump the excess off for a while as lovely Breastfeeding Network suggested that would stimulate it less but now am getting sod all milk out of the right with hand pump. Is my breast now damaged and is it going to remain much, much bigger than the other one?

hi marram, sorry to hear you've had such problems.

I've got exactly the same issue with lopsided boobs! Left boob is HUGE and right isn't! Ds is only 3wks and it's a but of a shock to the system, not to mention the wardrobe. Anything with a line/pattern/seam across my chest really highlights the prob and to make it worse my boobs are HUGE (currently 38H) and can't be hidden away very well How I'm going to survive the summer I don't know...

I'm afraid I don't have any advice for you, but I was looking up about the issue and found these threads which seemed to give us some reassurance that they wont stay like that forever! here and here . It was sooooooo good to read them through! Sounds like there's light at the end of the tunnel (either that or surgery )

There are a few others, you can find them if you type 'lopsided boobs' into the search facility.

thanks so much for that, have read them and feel a tickle better. Will keep soldiering on with starting on the small side. I reckon you might be able to nip it in the bud so to speak if your DS is only 3 weeks - making me broody!

The lady in M&S suggested a chicken fillet to help with the crazy lopsidedness but I haven't taken her up on that yet - still wearing cardis.......
