Just wonder how many here DO actually use their breastmilk to heal... runny eyes, sore ears, red bums, skint knees.. or express for an older child that has a bad cold?

Am i the only real "nutty" beleiver in its healing properties?!

When Dd1 was born she had a slight eye infection and my brestmilk worked wonders. I just squirted it straight onto her eyelid and let it sort of run into the eye.

I also used it when she scratched her face and made a little cut.

I read somewhere that breastmilk contains something that stops the bacteria cells in conjunctivitis sticking to the surface of the eye - pretty clever stuff.

I used to squirt DD in the eye after a feed many a time when she had newborn sticky eye. I have also found it amazing when she came had an allergic reaction (to milk and eggs); I put it on her face and the hives disappeared very quickly. I have used it on my spots on my face and also on my painful ingrowing toe nail. Also on very dry cracked hands. (this message makes me sound very spotty and decrepid, sorry). I recently offered some to SIL who had conjunctivitis but she turned me down . I've also heard somewhere (but it could be an urban myth) that breastmilk is sometimes used to bathe donor organs in prior to transport. There's a great link on kellymom that goes into more detail about the healing properties of breastmilk.

let's hope the link works, I can be a bit hit and miss.

I gave DS1 some when I had a massive glut (expressing whilst DS2 was dopey on morphine & on a drip after an op) as he had a bad cold. It perked him up no end, and he really liked it. Probably because it's so much more sugary than normal milk.
