Hi,
I have a blocked duct and day before yesterday started feeling achey and run down with red mark on breast. Yesterday felt worse, had a fever and going from hot to freezing.
There seems to be a lot of conflicting advice on going to GP with mastitis.
If I was given antibiotics is it likely to help clear block at all or just deal w fever I've been trying massage, heat, pumping etc every day but can't clear and it's agony and getting worse.
Thanks

Sympathies, I had mastitis, it's miserable.

Get yourself to the GP.

I don't know why, but it does clear the lump. But you should always go to the GP with mastitis, if it causes a breast access it can kill if it isn't treated. No really. Unfortunately this means the GP will have to have a rummage around to check, which is miserable when you're already in pain. I needed three lots of antibiotics, two of them together last time I had it and it went on for over a fortnight. With two small kids that was vile (I had also been felt up by three different GPs by the time it got better).
This hurts like hell, but some warm wet flannels then gently pushing the lump towards the areolae can help, especially if you do it when it first come on, it can prevent it getting to the pain and shivers stage if you're brave enough, but if you have it more than 24 hours it always develops further IME. Poor you Flowers
